The Hollywood Reporter’s Key Art Awards, generally considered to be among the most important in the world of advertising and marketing, were awarded last Thursday in Los Angeles.
Meduzarts’ work on the trailer for MORTAL KOMBAT X was nominated in the Game Trailer category. During the ceremony hosted by actor Nick Offerman, the trailer took home the silver statuette while Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was awarded the gold.
The game from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is not scheduled for release until April 2015, a fact that has not stopped the trailer being viewed over 12 million times on the official MORTAL KOMBAT YouTube channel, with three million views in the first 48 hours of release.
The two-minute clip created in collaboration with Agency AKQA is targeted at a sophisticated audience. The violent nature of the popular game franchise pushed Meduzarts’ team to utilize and showcase every ounce of their expertise in combat animation, fluid simulation (blood) and visual effects in order to impress a more and more demanding public.
“Having worked on two trailers for the previous installment in the franchise, our challenge was to come up with a daring proposal that would surprise WB Games studio NetherRealm. Ed Boon, the game’s creator, is our first and most critical audience, so we placed the bar very high in order to impress him.” shares André Lavoie, Meduzarts’ Art Director.
