Digital Dimension garnered great international publicity this week thanks to one of its high-resolution images making the front and back covers of the most recent issue of Edge Magazine.
It’s not the first time Digital Dimension’s work has been featured on the cover of the popular interactive entertainment magazine. Last year the Montreal company produced the marketing campaign images for Bethesda Softworks’ game The Elder Scroll Online, one of which was used in issue 242 of Edge Magazine. Soon after, it was the turn of the character Vaas from Ubisoft game FAR CRY 3 to cover star for issue 238.
Edge’s November 2014 issue (number 272) features the icy glare of Pagan Min, the nemesis in studio Ubisoft’s new game FAR CRY 4. Digital Dimension’s team was brought on board to create the 3D model and to produce a series of images featuring the cruel character for the game’s PR campaign. A significant mandate seeing as the artists had to deliver a final image with a resolution of 20000 pixels. By way of comparison, consider that an IMAX film gives us images of almost 4000 pixels, so the image of Pagan Min is literally 25 times greater than IMAX format. Imagine the size of the file and the quality of detail found in a character that is five times greater than an IMAX screen…
“Our ability to produce such high-resolution images lies in techniques borrowed from the world of Hollywood special effects combined with our artists’ passion for pushing creative, artistic, detail, and realism boundaries” shares Jessy Veilleux, founder and creative director of Meduzarts, a division of Digital Dimension.
The company is one of few, perhaps the only one, to offer such massive resolution. Historically, it was Star Wars : The Force Unleashed II that necessitated the highest resolution, at 22000 pixels. With ever increasing demands, the Digital Dimension team will soon work with an image of 25000 pixels or more.
The launch of FAR CRY 4, heralded by some as one of the best games of 2014, is set for 18 November 2014 on PS4, XBOX ONE, and PC.
