This month, Meduzarts’ work is once again featured on the cover of the latest issue of Edge Magazine, with one of its very high resolution pictures.
Meduzarts’ team was mandated to work on the promotional campaign for Dishonored 2. The image of the throne room, produced for Bethesda Softworks LLC, was used on the cover of Edge Magazine, issue #298. Based off of the brand identity originally developed by the Rokkan agency, Meduzarts was commissioned by Bethesda Softworks, the publisher of the game, to design the series of iconic images required for the marketing campaign and the production thereof using the 3D material originating from the game. Meduzarts is no stranger to being featured on the cover of the well-known magazine associated to the video game industry and interactive entertainment. Earlier this year, two images produced for the game DOOM were featured on the cover of March 2016’s issue #290. Contrary to its habits, the British magazine opted to offer two different covers instead of its usual one. Furthermore, in the past year, the Montreal-based company also produced the promotional images for the advertising campaign of Far Cry 4, a game published by Ubisoft Entertainment, from which one of them was used for the issue #272 of Edge Magazine. Also, in the past years, images for The Elder Scroll Online, also of Bethesda Softworks LLC, and for Far Cry 3, from Ubisoft, were used as cover images for issues #242 and #238 respectively. For of the Dishonored 2 image, with a final resolution of 15,000 by 15,000 pixels (nearly 25 times the size of an IMAX projection), the first challenge was the attention to detail. The team recreated the characters and environments from the game in a 3D environment, with a hyperrealist angle, but within the style to the game. Later, the artists at Meduzarts created the image composition, lighting, rendering so that finally, the creatives and artists dedicated to the project will add their last touch, giving the image all its atmosphere. The throne room is part of a series of three images provided to the customer for their various marketing needs; images for their website, magazine covers or for the box cover of the game.
“We had the chance to design the entire image, from the abstract idea facing a blank page to the final execution,” says Victor Alexis Rainville, Executive Producer responsible of video games projects for Meduzarts. “With this opportunity, we were able to fully exploit the potential of the image, harmonizing creative effervescence and technical reality of our teams. Being involved in the whole process, both in the design and creation as with the production is very exciting and is a trend that we want to keep. We have the talent to both aspects, as well use it to its full swing. ”
Our group is one of the few that offers such a large resolution and possibly the only one offering such an approach to production with such a degree in regards to quality in this size. In the past, their project requiring the largest scale was for the cancelled project of the late developer LucasArts, Star Wars: 1313 with a resolution of 22,000 pixels by 18,000 pixels, or nearly 45 times the size of an IMAX projection.
The release of the game Dishonored 2 is scheduled for November 11th, 2016 on PS4, XBOX ONE and PC.
